Greg LaFollette – Liturgical Songs Volume One
Greg LaFollette has revealed Liturgical Songs Volume One, his sixth studio album.
LaFollette is the artiste-in-residence at The Culture House, where he self-produced the songs. The date of its release is January 3, 2025.
LaFollette’s personal life saw significant changes during the creation of Liturgical Songs Volume One, including the unexpected deaths of both of his parents in 2024 and the joys of starting a new family.
“When sung collectively, worship songs that encompass the whole range of our reality can heal us,” he says. The Church provides the consolation that the weight need not be carried alone in the arresting He Does, which is reminiscent of a conversation with someone going through a difficult time.
In its purest form, this record is meant to provide the church with useful tools.
His latest album of the Lord’s Prayer, which features renowned modern Christian musician Fernando Ortega, is incredibly helpful in corporate church settings.
LaFollette doesn’t hesitate to embrace elegance and beauty, even while there is a clear respect for accessibility.
27 colleagues were invited to participate in the recording process, making use of the spacious studio areas where the performances were recorded. When we perceive things in the same location at the same time, something different occurs. When expressed, even silence has great force. The album features folk-inspired textures and was produced by a full band.
Creative, contemporary production carefully balances the acoustic, organic aspects throughout. A stunning cello ensemble performs an instrumental repeat of Oh The Deep Deep Love of Jesus on the album.
LaFollette’s Psalm 136 (Your Mercy Endures), which peaked at number one on the iTunes New Zealand Christian & Gospel Chart, and the ground-breaking 2018 album Songs of Common Prayer are followed by Liturgical Songs Volume One. LaFollette thinks the album, which has received over 8 million Spotify plays alone, will delight God and heal many.
