1. Throughout these forty days, O lord

With you we fast and pray,

That flesh subdued

And Spirit freed

Your will we may obey.

2. As you repelled temptation, Lord,

And conquered Satan’s reign,

Give us the strength to conquer sin,

And live by grace again.

3. Throughout these days of penitence,

Through lent and passion tide,

Take up your cross in us again,

In us be crucified.

4. Do not abandon us, O Lord.

But keep us at your side,

That we may rise to life a new,

Redeemed and glorified.

5. Abide with us until this life

Of sufering once past,

An Easter of unending joy

We may attain at last.
