Bethel Music songwriter and worship leader Kristene DiMarco has released her latest track, “Death Is Hollow,” in commemoration of Holy Week. The song, available today in live and acoustic versions, comes with an accompanying video. It serves as a powerful declaration that Jesus has triumphed over death and the grave, removing all power and fear associated with them.
Drawing from her rich history in songwriting, DiMarco’s inspiration for “Death Is Hollow” came from a painful and heartbreaking season she experienced with a dear friend in 2019. The song is based on 1 Corinthians 15:55 and aims to remind listeners that as believers, we are covered by the blood of Jesus. No matter what happens on earth, we can take comfort in the truth that death has lost its victory and sting.
“While we still mourn at graves that are filled, we hold onto the promise that one day they will be empty,” says DiMarco. “Jesus is the firstborn from the dead, and His grave holds no remnants of the perishable. When our mortal bodies are clothed with immortality, the saying ‘Death has been swallowed up in victory’ will come true (1 Corinthians 15:54).”
DiMarco emphasizes that death does not have the final say because Jesus reigns victorious. As believers, we continue to strive towards the prize of being raised with Christ and seeing Him face to face.
